Student Advisory Council
The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry’s (MKIFP) Student Advisory Council (SAC) spreads awareness of the prevalence of food insecurity throughout Northern Westchester, especially in the Mount Kisco/Bedford Hills community, as well as engages high school students who are passionate about the issue.
Members of the SAC are composed of the leadership from partnering high school clubs and are led by an elected President and Vice President. The Council is advised by an alumnus of the SAC and the Fund Development and Communications Manager of the Pantry. The Council meets two to three times per year to coordinate a calendar of activities and share best practices.
The Clubs at the partnering high schools (Bryam Hills, Fox Lane, The Harvey School, Horace Greeley, and Horace Mann)) are responsible for:
Spreading SAC/MKIFP information to their Club/high school members and the entire school community
Recruiting volunteers age 15+ to work at MKIFP distributions
Hosting food drives at their school
Working with the SAC/MKIFP on new initiatives, as identified
Graeme Banks, SAC Advisor, shares: “Since this program’s creation in 2022, serving as Chair and Advisor to this exceptional group has been nothing short of inspiring. ‘A Fight Against Hunger’ isn’t just our SAC motto; it’s a guiding principle. When we fight, we win - and these students are ready to roll up their sleeves and make it happen. I couldn’t be more proud of them and the incredible work they do for our MKIFP community.”
